Making a difference.

Updated: Apr 14, 2020

I like to think of myself as a decent human. I smile at strangers, donate clothes to Goodwill, pick up my dog's poop when no one is watching, recycle (including the hard stuff, that you actually have to wash out), do my taxes – all the basics.

Yet, I know what I actually am is a lazy, decent human. I care about the environment - yet I don't contact my senator on pressing issues. I care about human rights - yet I haven't once camped out in front of an immigration detention center demanding anything. I'm even a woman who's never made a single sign for #metoo.

I struggle with how I can realistically make a difference. How I can balance my ideals, and my actions. To get closer to striking the balance I'm looking for, I've started to ask a few questions:

1. Why do I want to make a difference anyway?

2. How will I measure the difference I'm making?

3. What does making a difference actually look like to me?

4. Lastly, where does it fall on the list of priorities in my life?
